About this Entry
Sep. 23rd, 2005 @ 12:01 am One Long Week
Hello everyone. You'll be happy to know that I haven't completly fallen off the face of the earth just yet. Things around here have been rather on the busy side, both in-game and in real life. But since I don't really talk about real life stuff in this particular blog, you'll just have to settle for all the fun of the past week and a half. Sufficed to say, it's been a rather fufilling week in Vana'diel, so... without further adieu, let's get right to it.

Friday (9/9/05)
---------------
- Mountains to Climb, Antlions to Kill:
Started the day with uncapped ENM at Attowah Chasm (Sheep in Antlion's Clothing). The climb was easy enough now that I have some experience with it. Got rather funny when our resident samurai Dragonlionking (DLK for short), jumped off the mountain by accident, then sacrificed himself to a large train... climbing the mountain is fun enough, tractoring a corpse up it... now that's FUN!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Fight was quick and too the point, no problems. Got a single Galatiea to drop which was split (bout 250k each) plus a nice chunk of XP.

- Fafnir, Act 1, Scene 1:
A few hours after our ENM excursion, we got the call to come to Dragon's Aery. Other than the recent Aspid win we had, TMO of late had hit a dry streak in terms of HNM pulls against our rivals, InfinitumNihil (IN). IN was on a roll, and from the looks of their numbers against ours, things were not looking well.

Enter Defiance, a newer NA HNMLS on the server with little experience in big pulls such as this. DF managed to get initial claim on Fafnir, though their inexperience eventually showed as they would eventually wipe. With about 15-20 minutes past, claim eventually went to us... at last, my first dragon fight. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

To say that I was nervous fighting Fafnir would be an understatment, I was practically shaking the whole time. In hindsight, I don't really see why I was so nervous about it all. Maybe I was trying a bit too hard to prove myself in a big league fight such as this. And yes... I did eat the dirt at the end thanks to some overzelous nuking on my part.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Thankfully, I was the only one to fall that day. And with my fall, Fafnir dropped some decent loot (no, I didn't get the Aq. Abj: Hands I been seeking, hopefully next time)...

Saturday, 9/10/05
-----------------
- While You Were Out:
While I was at work, TMO got claim on King Behemoth... =)

- Fafnir, Act 2, Scene 1:
The next day I returned to the Aery, where once again Fafnir popped. This time, we got claim from the start thanks to a great pull by Tanos (RDM pull 4TW). Fight went much more smoothly than the night before, and the nervousness that I had was nowhere to be found. Guess it does get easier once you do it a few times ne? ^_~

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Not as much loot this time around, but tonight their was a suprise in store for us, one that I would soon not forget...

- Who Says You Need Thor To Kill a Serpent?
Later that evening, TMO made the long climb up the mountains of Ulegurand Range, one of the newer areas north of dreaded Xarcabard. Our target... one of the three great wyrms of Vana'diel, the blue dragon Jormungand. Over the course of the next 4 hours, TMO would wage red war in the freezing snows and howling winds, going toe to toe with this mythical beast of legend...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

As we would quickly find out, Jorg's resistance to magic is just incredible. I think for the entire fight, I barely broke 400's on my best magic bursts. Bad for me cause I want to be able to contribute to the damage, but also good cause it means I don't get eaten as quickly.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Things were going fairly well for us up until about the 20% mark, when things took a major turn for the worse. I'm not sure the exact details... but apperently a claimed snoll began attacking our tanks and exploded, dealing serious damage to our front line. In the confusion that ensued, Jorg turned and promptly spike flailed us, quickly wiping the alliance out...

It got worse, after getting a few people back up... Jorg flailed a 2nd time, again wiping us. Things didn't look good for us at this point, but thanks to some fine work from our surviving tanks (Milikai and Edarion) we managed to buy enough time to get back on our feet. In all, the carnage caused cost us bout an hour of the fight.

Thankfully, Jorg's flailing came at a good time, since he had just hit rage mode (basically a point where he starts spamming TP abilities for a while). Since we were focusing on recovering, Jorg eventually calmed down and the fight was back on.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Course, no fight is complete without a epic dragon getting a taru snack before he dies. Guess I'm just more jucier than the other taru. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

In the end, after nearly 4 hours of battle, we eventually brought the wyrm down once and for all. Congrats to everyone who came out for the experience of a lifetime. Drops were Dragon Talon, Mob. Ore x4, and Damascene Cloth.

Tuesday, 9/13/05
----------------
- Dancing With The Devil:
Tuesday, it was time to push forward with the CoP storyline, and that meant dealing with Diabolos, the terrestrial avatar of dreams. For our first run, our group consisted of BLM x3, WAR/NIN, NIN/WAR, and MNK/WAR. My initial fears was our lack of WHM (and thus lack of Erase)... and those fears would quickly be realized. Diabolos unleashed Nightmare, a powerful AoE attack combining Sleep & Bio (from which you don't wake up from). Though we managed to get past the sleep part, Bio litterally tore us apart.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Throughly defeated, a change in tactics was needed in order to bring this devil down to size. Myself and Luen went back to Windurst and switched over to WHM/SMN main. Though we were both below the 40 cap, the addition of Erase and much better healing power pulled us through the fight.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With Diabolos defeated, this brought chapter 3 of the CoP storyline to a close, and also opened up a huge can of worms regarding the origins of Dynamis. It'll be intersting to see how they play out this eventual plotline with Diabolos & Dynamis.

- Speaking of Dynamis:
Speaking of Dynamis, right after our victory over Diabolos, I rushed straight over to Dynamis - Beaucedene where a DynamisTMO run was in progress. Managed to catch them at the trailing end of the run over near NM lake.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

We got the win for those who needed to flag for Xarcabard, but the AF drops just absolutly reeked tonight... 1 stinking DRK. That's it... ;_;

Wendsday, 9/14/05
-----------------
- Chapter 4:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Having finally caught up to a small group of TMO members in the CoP storyline, it was time to take a trip up to Riverne Site #B01. At this point, no story is complete without a few shinanagans from the Chebbuki clan. (Poor Cherukiki, I feel thy pain... /comfort).

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Much like #A01, #B01 works pretty much the same way. Go through spacial distortions, kill a drake in the process for a key, and use said key to open an unstable distortion. Nothing a hardened group of adventurers can't handle. Course, the fight we would have to tackle this day would be a bit more of a challenge to us.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

What you got here is basically a lesson in dragonslaying, and if your not prepared for it, Ouryu will tear you limb for bloody limb. Our experience from our last wyrm encounter with Jorg proved invaluable, as Ouryu followed many of the same tactics as his larger bretheren (thankfully no spike flails this time). Basically, the paladin tanks while he's in the air, when he lands... we sleep him and wind up for a freeze + AF off distortion. After bout 10 minutes, once we had Ouryu's health down to bout 30%, the fight ended.

Thursday, 9/15/05
-----------------
- Turtle Squash:
A quick camp during the lunch hour yielded an uncontested Admantoise for us. This fight was just laughable... and in all honesty, I think an XP party could take him down just as easilly. Drops were a pair of adaman ore and heavy curiass.

- Fafnir, Act 3, Scene 2:
(Program Note: Due to illness, the roll of Fafnir will be played this evening by Nidhogg... we apoligize for the inconvience)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

That's right kids, the taru finally caught Nidhogg. Basically, think of a bigger, meaner, more powerful version of Fafnir w/ Mighty Strikes usable at will.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Good news of the fight, I was doing terrific damage to Nidhogg off of magic bursts w/ Water IV (a few even hitting for upwards of 1200). However, even in my full -enmity gear, Nidhogg decided to make me his lunch a couple times over. I swear to god I need to start subbing Ninja for big fights like this. Irregardless, we got the job done in just under 1 hour (just before Nidhogg goes SSJ4)... and the drops, well... their's a reason TMO calls me the sacrificial taru now...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Big congrats over to Starfox on Aq. Abj: Body, Hiroko on Wyrm Beard (one more item away from Black Belt), and Myanth on E. Abj: Body (and the first NA on siren with Adaman body). ^^b

- Later that evening...:
After getting claim on Capricious Cassie in Fei'yin, we made the trek over to the dreaded Sacrarium. In our
case (myself and Onigami), we were here to finish the chapter 4 mission that takes place here. Course, getting a few swift belts in the process would help. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Our luck from Nidhogg hadn't failed us one bit. In 4 pops within the Hume room of the Sacrarium, we went a perfect 4/4 on the Swift Belt drop. Talk about one heck of a night! =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And it wasn't over yet, as after a bit of searching about, we found the correct room to trigger Old Professor Mariselle and a pair of his undead students. Good time to take the old hag and his students to the school of hard knocks. =)

(Yes, this update STILL isn't done yet... be patient kids) =)

Well, servers are curerntly having their daily hissy-fit thanks to a bunch of DDoS'ing morons, so let's go to the update shall we?

Last night the good folks of TMO paid a visit up to Sky in hopes of pimping out a few more of our members with l33t gears, and also to check out several of our newest applicants to the shell (a big round of /welcome to Boarder and Issac). While waiting for the others to arrive, a small group of us managed to push down Despot, and also made an attempt on Faust. Sadly, our Faust effort was complicated by several factors which eventually lead to a wipe. Not being the ones to quit so easilly, we pulled ourselves back together and paid our good friend Byakko a visit.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

No offense Byakko, but for a great cat that talks how we're so insignificant in his eyes, your rather easy to push down. BTW: Thanks for all the generous drops this evening, we really do appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Congrats to Milikai on the Haidate. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Next up, I was hoping to get another crack at Genbu this night (been trying for a while now to get my Aqu. Abj: Hands for Zenith Mitts), but this night, we had something bigger in mind. A small piece of unfinished business back from my CuteCuteSky days...

Kirin

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Au contrair Misure Kirin... I think at 22 people strong (and a lot of taru to go with it), we're more than ready for your little challenge. So let's get this party started shall we? ^_~

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Master of the Shijin? Really, then why is it your calling for help from your other god buddies... like Mr. Genbu here?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And Suzaku here?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And Seiryu and Byakko... And you call yourself the "Master of the Shijin"? Please, next time learn to fight your own wars, then we'll talk...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

There we go, that's much better. Now the fight is on for real... =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

At this point, the fight with Kirin is going well. A few errant deaths here and there, myself included. I dunno how, but Kirin decided to toss a massive Stonega IV directly onto me after I hit him with a reasonable 500 damage Aero IV. Thankfully I got well clear of the others, but having a spell deal 1400 damage (through blink and stoneskin), something's not right about that. And what's this with kirin throwing spells that are even higher level than what we have avalible? No fair... I want those powerful magics for myself. ^^;

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

While resting, Kirin pulled out his own 2-hour ability, Astral Flow and brought a good majority of the alliance into the orange and red. I was thankfully outside the battle at that point, resting up after the stonega IV I got smacked down with. Some quick healing from numerous mages and we were all right back at it, and except for Kirin still having bout 43% health left, the fight was all but won at this point.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Drops were decent, we managed Kirin's Pole (congrats to Starfox), Orh. Ingot, and W.Abj: Legs (not sure who got these), but more importantly for those of us that had just defeated the master for the first time... this.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Many /congrats across the board to everyone that made this possible. And here's hoping for a few more gods and kings in the near future. =)

Welcome back everyone. Rather fulfilling night yesterday evening, so lets get right to it...

Most of thursday night was spent working on the Windurst route of CoP 3-3, much of which involves the Chebukki brothers (and sister) causing mischief all over windurst. And to think I thought Prishe's antics in Bastok were bad enough, these taru are worth just as many laughs especially when you realize just how scheming they are. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Course, we can't let the kids have all the fun can we. Some of the old guard of Windurst also come out to stir the pot some more. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Well, all scheming and kniving aside, the meat of this mission came when professor Yoran-Oran (whom I owe almost all my fame in windurst to), dispatched me to obtain a trio of Mimeo Feathers from the top of Parradamo Tor in Attowah Chasm. Yep, it was time for another trip up the big hill, and this time I would be going it alone. I'll be honest, having someone that knows their way around the area really does help, cause trying to get to the top by yourself can be a lesson in frustration. After locating the loose sand where the the Mimeo Stone was located (popping a NM antlion in the process which was quickly dispatched), the job was to get the stone to the top of the mountain before it lost it's glow (ie: 1 hour time limit). Yes... I did fail the first attempt, mainly due to only being vaugly familiar with the layout and a couple misteps that brought me to ground level. My 2nd attempt though proved much more successful.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Returning to Windurst, I hooked Yoran-Oran with the feathers he needed, then scooted off to find the Chebukki's again. Before I could though, they had already scampered off to Jeuno. *Sigh* Well, least for now the mission was finished and I was once again on my way. Hopefully we'll get to find out more bout these mischevous little taru-tikes in the near future.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After a quick stop over in Bastok to pry some more info out of Cid, it was off to Jeuno and my contacts over at the Tenshodo. To find out that Prishe was attacked (supposedly by the mysterious boy) was a shock, and that the amulet she wears is tied to her well being... the same amulet which was stolen, and which I have another of. Hopefully she'll be alright for now. But now, all clues are pointing over to the magical towers of Pso'xja, located deep in Beaucidine Glacier. The towers have long been controlled by the Tenshodo, and to get to the inner sections of them, a little bit of back scratching was needed (in the form of 1 of the 3 chips that drop within the complex). After gathering a few friends (Squazz, Arbell, and Myanth), we plunged into one of the unsealed towers. Within the first couple of kills we managed a grey chip, as well as a pair of Florid Stones (ENM triggers) which should prove useful in the future.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I was bout to make my way back to Jeuno to turn in the chip and call it an evening, when our fearless leader, Edarion gives us the call... get to Valley of Sorrows.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My First Turtle...:

Friday morning, early, too early to be concious enough to understand the world around you. TMO arrives in Valley of Sorrows with 7 people, and we're not alone as a full contingent of folks from IN and LGA (Little Green Apples, a japanese HNMLS) are present. Either way, we were outnumbered, outgunned, and facing people falling asleep.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Since we had a bit of time prior to the first window, I decide to catnap for bout 30 minutes hoping to get a little bit of stamina back for a few windows. Beach sounds, smooth and relaxing... sounds of desert winds, calming... sounds of being agroed by a raptor... OH SNAP! Least I had my sound up high enough to hear it (it had agroed Myanth thankfully). We dispatch said raptor and moved over to the safe, if not crowded side of the area.

51 in zone at time of first window (counting XP parties), our guess is this was going to be Admantoise. At bout 3 minutes till first window, everyone moves into position. At this point, we are outnumbered by least 3 to 1, maybe more.

The pop comes, I'm thinking Admantoise... Aspid shows up instead, he pops purple... I'm thinking someone from either IN or LGA got him. But then...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

He's ours! The fight is on! And.. we're also knee-deep in adds. Things started off slowly for us as our primary concern was getting the adds off us while trying to get our reinforments in. Within 5 minutes, the other linkshells are already demanding /random. Bah I say to them, they may have numbers, but we've least got the guts and the tallent to get the job done. Aspid's regen is just insane at this point, and to see him go from 95% to 97% to 99% in a matter of seconds...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Our reinforcments begin to arive, along with much needed firepower. Things start to get moving, abiet slowly. Milikai is our point man at this point and has hate on Aspid. We're finally managing to get the adds under control. At some point about 70'ish percent, we're not exactly sure how... but Milikai some how inexplicably get's one-shotted by Aspid. Then Mr. Aspid pulls me in, and I get Toosie-Popped... it goes something like this (for those of you that don't remember this classic)

Hey Mr. Turtle, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie-Roll Pop? Hmmm, let's see... 1 *lick*, 2 *lick, pull in* 3... *Crunch, Kimiko was defeated by Aspid* ...3. @@;;;

At this point, Ed grabs hate and orders a cure barrage on him to keep him up while Swazi chainspell raises Mili and I... Mili gets back into the fray while I rest (and then immediatly gets downed again by a raptor add) --;

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After being raised again (double weakness thankfully doesn't affect healing spells, so I go and backup Mili at this point), we get things back going. Becomming pressed on time, Ed orders a shift in tactics. With 4 blm's and a pair of rdm's now, we decide to open up on blizzard II through IV in moderation, rather than waiting for the darkness skillchain. I eventually unweaken and rejoin the fray as others are reloading... Aspid is slowly but surely going down, but we're running short on time before he goes into SSJ4 mode.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And soon enough, we bring Mr. Aspid down for the count... =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

As you can see, our big drops of the evening were the Admantoise Egg (congrats to Hiroko, one step closer to the Black Belt), and Wrymial Abj: Body (Congrats to Squazz, Crimson Scale Mail get!), and a good chunk of change to the LS coffers. All in all, decent drops, but the rush of excitment, to have brought down my first real HNM, it's something I'm not about to forget for a long time.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Tommorow (or least later today) we should be doing Dynamis - Bastok. Hope to see you all again soon. =)

Hello again everyone. Sorry for the absence for the last few days, their's been a lot of stuff done and not much time to write about them all. So without further adieu, let's get started shall we? =)

First off, you may notice the new shiny blue linkshell beside my name. After a few weeks of hanging out with the folks of The Mystical Order (TMO) and learning the ropes of the HNM scene, I was finally accepted into the linkshell. TMO is known for being one of the best HNM shells on the server, favoring the quality of it's members over sheer numbers. I can only hope, despite my... well, flaws, that I can do this group proud. With the new linkshell, I have made a few changes to my high-level activities, mainly to keep the stress to a managable level. I have (with some reluctance I might add) left the friendly confines of CuteCuteSky. I know they've got a great group there, and I know they're more than capible of doing great things, and I wish them all the luck in the world. Also, I have left Fantasy Forever (FF) in favor of TMO's dynamis group. This, unlike CCS, I don't regret in the least... their lot policy just sucked badly, and being buried 8-9 deep in black mages means I would likely never see any AF2 in the near future. Aslo, several comments made by FF memebers (who also runs InfinitumNihil, a rival HNM group), really caused me to lose a lot of respect for their leadership.

FYI: No, I am still throughly a Roundabout... someone's gotta be there to throw the monkey wrench into Milk and company's shinanagans. =)

Now, onto the update... ^_~

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gration (Mr. WTF is his intimidate skill?! +100?!)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

My first official HNM fight with TMO (that business with Vrtra... that doesn't count)... and what a dandy this guy turned out to be. Gration is one of the newer generation HNM's triggered by trading an item (in this case, a Hickory Shield) to a ??? point in Miseraux Coast near Tavnazian Safehold. Though not as terribly powerful as some of the other HNM's like Nidhogg or King Behemoth, Gration's not without his own suprises. He packs a massive AoE stomp attack that was taking people from full HP to zero in a heartbeat, and his most powerful tool, the ability to intimidate others, similar to the beastmaster ability, but far more effective. It's bad enough when your trying to get the right range for a NM that's being kited on a string, but after figuring his intimidation ability in, I got maybe 1 spell in 10 attempts off on him.... quite annoying if you ask me.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Thankfully, his intimidation isn't 100%, and it wasn't enough for us to eventually whittle it down to death... and with death, this precious little beauty...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

An outstanding shield, especially for paladins and beastmasters. I can't wait to see this baby in action against a wide variety of mobs.

We made 2 more runs at Gration that evening, however, we quickly figured out that the shield drop was nowhere near 100% as the bastard refused to drop the shield for us once again. Eventually though, I have no doubt that our persistance will pay off... Also, during our 2nd fight with Gration, we got a little unwelcome addition with Mr. Intimidator...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

We don't exactly know for certain if we had struck first, or if Toro linked with the bugard adds we were getting, but let's just say the 2nd fight got annoying very quickly. Toro (the newly added NM for the Blitz Buffalo event) is harmless in terms of damage (all his strikes deal 0 damage). What's annoying about him is that his attacks have amazing kickback, and when we mean kickback, we mean "send you to a randomly selected town" kickback (added effect: random warp...) Fun if your hunting him for the prize he drops... not fun if your fighting a HNM and he comes rolling along. --;

After finishing our Gration runs, we paid a visit to Newton Movapolis where another trigger NM, Bugbear Matman awaited us. I'm not sure exactly what this guy drops as I was only able to stay for 1 pop (which dropped nothing). Very easy fight for an alliance, and a single party also managed to defeat it, despite a near wipe early in the fight.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Riverne Site #A01:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

For months, I had been holding back on attempting this mission again, having gone 0/4 with several other parties that have attempted this mission. Now that I'm with TMO, and their need for those that have not gotten Al'taieu access to get their ASAP, it was due time to try again. Thanks to one of our fellow LS members, I managed to hook up with a band heading out to the area.

Our setup, and the brave souls who dare tread upon these forsaken grounds:

Myself: BLM/WHM
Soulforge: BLM/WHM
Pinchy: WHM/SMN
Thestranger: WAR/NIN
Indeed: WAR/NIN
Noreaga: RNG/NIN

Our plan was fairly simple. Since the mammets are susceptable to bind, Noreaga and myself would keep the right Mammet bound, while indeed kept the 2nd mammet kited away from us. Our first run was mainly a dry run (no items or 2hr's used). We managed to kill the center mammet and take the left one down to bout half health before we nearly wiped. For the most part the plan would work, though having to kite the right mammet around while #1 was still up wasn't exactly how things were supposed to go (for a black mage, I did a pretty good job kiting) =)

Attempt #2: Same setup as before, this time I would bind the mammet while Noreaga kited the right and Indeed the left. Pretty much same thing happened, only this time, we were much more prepared. After the wipe, we reraised up, and with Mammet #1 already downed, the fight afterwards became 100x easier for us. In short order, we downed #2, and then... at last, #3. After 5 previous tries... my 6th attempt at this mission was finally successful. With that, a chilling cutscene and a warp to the shores of South Gustaburg put me on the road into the 3rd chapter of Chains of Promathia.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Prishe = <3. I swear, I break down laughing at times at just how non-elvaan she acts. We need to get her hooked up with a certain Tarutaru rebel who's currently inprisoned.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a long celebrated victory, it was time to move on to other things. Outside of the solo ENM60, I hadn't really made any attempts at the other ENM fights out there. Thanks to fellow TMO & Roundabout member Milikai, that would soon change. I got invited to the ENM75 located at Boneyard Gully, deep in the heart of Attowah Chasm. To get to the gully though, you need a Miasma Filter... and getting it would require a trek up the mountain of Parradamo Tor. The tor is a navigator's worst nightmare, as you must circumnavigate up a series of extremly narrow paths, one slip from which can send you quickly back to the bottom. After a bit of roaming about the ledges, we eventually made our way to the top and the cradle of rebirth, where the items we needed was located...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After comming down the moutain and turning the items in to the NPC at the entrance to the Chasm, we were ready to go to Boneyard Gully. The trip there is simple as long as you take care to sneak yourselves, don't want nasty antlions or undead, or the occasional Tiamat to get you (no Tiamat wasn't up this time around). Once at the gully, it was time to face off against a powerful antlion, one they call "A sheep in antlion's clothing"...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Despite a tight time limit and numerous fakes to sort through, we cut through our prey with no problems, and for which... we were doublly rewarded.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Yes, those Forager's Mantles run about 2.5 MILLION gil each, divided amongst 6 people... not a bad days work I would say. I need to do these ENM's more often. =)

With our success in the gully, I decided to tackle a small section of the chapter 3 storyline. During mission 3-3 there are two distinct sections, one staged in the Kingdom of San d'Oria, the other in home sweet Windurst. After hooking up with Milikai and Roelon, we set out upon the Sandy portion of this mission. The majority of which is running about town and getting various cutscenes, which eventually lead you to an NPC in Carpenter's Landing. Course, the NPC we were sent to speak with turned out not as friendly as the others, as he sicked a wicked monstrosity upon us.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Mr. Overgrown Rose turned out to be nothing more than a pushover for a trio of high-level Roundabouts. After pushing him down, our NPC became much more cooperative... and a quick trip back to sandy for one last cutscene, and BOOM! Part 1 of the mission complete... I'll be working on the Windy part of this mission later in the week, and with luck we'll soon be ready for the next big BC battle to come.

Dynamis - Xarcabard, TMO Style...:

Being one of the newest members of TMO has it's perks, along with it comes membership in DynamisTMO, who's tuesday night raids are free to TMO members. It just so happens that this tuesday night we would hit the baddest dynamis of them all once again... Xarcabard. In comparing DyanmisTMO to FF, a few things I've noticed... one, DynamisTMO is right to the point, we don't screw around trying to farm eyes or demons. We hit the targets we need, and move on... 2nd, they also use a lot of sucicide pulls (thanks to Myanith and Edarion) resulting in less agro. This evenings run started rather worrysome though, as we began with only 2 blm's in the entire group, myself and Caladabog. Thankfully the group did an awesome job keeping the pulls to a minimum, and we did eventually pick up 2 more blm's for the run later during the raid. We managed to clear through the NM's and the wall of doom with nearly 2 hours left to go. After a light amount of farming, we started the long climb up the hill... wiping vanguard dragon after vanguard dragon, then eventually dealing with the draconic brothers, Ying and Yang... then, at last... our final prey...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With the mages perched on a higher level to avoid the worst effects of DL's incredible powers, the paladins pulled hate and used every trick in the book to keep it. Meanwhile, the sizable number of rdm/drk's we had would keep DL pinned down with chainspell stuns while the black mages unloaded loads of heavy nukes. For the first 50% of his health, it was going great... then, disaster...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

How, or for that matter, why it happened, we don't know... but DL, despite mutliple PLD's on him trying to hold hate, turned, marched up the ramp... and right for the mages... and one Oblivion Smash pretty much ended our night. Oh well, we'll get him next time up in Xarcabard... to have managed to do this with only 50 total people at the end is quite an accomplishment (FF wusses out if they don't have 64).

In all, quite a week... and hoping for much much more in the near future. Cya all soon. =)

Not exactly update worthy, but for the last couple days... here's the recent track record on HNM hunting with TMO

Thursday (18th) - TMO loses Fafnir claim to IN.

Friday (19th) - (I get home late from work that night). TMO claims Fafnir, wipes at 80% due to lack of damage after Fafnir goes SSJ4. IN claims after Fafnir resets and kills in 20 minutes, also gets Admantoise claim from TMO later that evening after I get home.

Saturday (20th) - TMO manages all of 4 people + myself in Dragon's Aery. Nidhogg pops... IN gets claim and completly rips him a new one (supposedly Dalmatica dropped). Stayed for first 2 windows of Behemoth before having to go to Dynamis - Windurst with FF... IN got claim there.

Current Mood: accomplished
Good evening everyone. Tonight I was honored to be able to join forces with the folks of TMO once again. Despite the small blowup that happened the other evening at Vrtra, my hopes are that this was little more than an isolated case. We all have our bad nights... believe me, I know.

Anyways, on to the excitment of the evening.

First off was Dragon's Aery and another attempt at hunting Nidhogg. With aprox. 70 people in the zone from three of the larger NA HNMLSs (TMO, InfinitumNihil, and PikaBlue), we were bound for an intersting pull. Sadly though, things didn't fall our way this evening as 1st: Fafnir popped instead of Nidhogg, and 2nd'ly: InfintumNihil got claim on him and proceeded to thoroughly dismantle the dragon limb for limb. Congrats to Georgethepimp and the rest of IN on the victory.

With Fafnir out out the way, our next stop this evening was to the arid wastes known as Attowah Chasm. Located beyond the tunnels from the Maze of Shakrami, Attowah Chasm is home to the massive antlions (you remember these from the old Final Fantasy games don't you?) These massive, hulking beasts require a good team with a lot of firepower to bring down. Tonight though, we were on the hunt for one particular antlion... and even with the strength of a 16-man alliance, we were going to need something a bit more... something out of the ordinary. We needed a trap.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And a trap we had (well, a pair of them to be exact; one from Myanath and the other from Swazi). Using the powerful antlion traps, we would capture a particularly notorious antlion, the Feeler Antlion. Despite it's small stature, we knew the Feeler could bring forth some powerful allies to it's side, including the horrific Alastor Antlion... our prey.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After poping an Executioner Antlion, which we were in the process of slaying, the Feeler Antlion popped the big mother on us in the form of the Alastor. With the Alastor spawned, the Feeler had to be dropped, and dropped in a hurry less it's incredible regenerative powers heal it back to full (not to mention spawning more Exectutioners on us). Not really a problem when you've got a few black and red mages to pump out the hurt. After clearing out the Feeler and his Exectutioner buddies, we focued in on the primary target. He wasn't easy to say the least, as he was dishing out the attacks one after another, and we quickly realized that stunning his bigger spells wasn't going to work... or for that matter, stun wasn't working on him period...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Though, little by little we wittled the beast down until finally, we managed to fell our gargantuan foe. For our efforts, we picked up a cool grand in gil as well as a nice little trinket for the mages.

All I can say of these boots is this... FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS RIGHT AND GOOD IN THIS FAIR VANA'DIEL, I WANT A PAIR OF THESE!!!!!!!111111!shift+one. *Pant pant* Ok... sorry bout that, but yes, these boots are just incredible, especially since I've been steadily working on my red mage subjob. I can't wait to get the pieces I need to assemble the trap and then get a pair of these bad boys for myself. Congrats to Myanith on these new uber shoes. ^_^

Not content with just one pair... we scored a 2nd set of Rostrum Pumps for Swazi. Fight wen't about the same, though this time Feeler popped the Alastor right off the bat, thus no Executioners to deal with.

Aug. 15th, 2005 @ 07:07 pm Vrtra - A Tale of Two Linkshells
Current Mood: annoyed
Last night, I had the pleasure of being invited over to another event with TMO (The Mystical Order, one of the best NA HNM shells on Siren) and their allies, PikaBlue for a dragon hunt... specifically, Vrtra. That's right... my first official HNM hunt would be against none other than the most hideously difficult HNM currently in the game... what a way to start I thought...

After an hour or so of prepwork and waiting for people to get into the area where Vrtra lairs, we had 2 full alliances assembled. The first would be the actual Vrtra fight time, while the second would handle the various undead Vrtra spawns as well as numerous other undead in the zone. On paper, it's a solid plan... but, if I remember an old military addage correctly, "No plan survives engagement with the enemy."

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The major problem with Vrtra is that every 30 or so seconds, he summons forth more undead to assist him in battle. Despite repeated damage to the summoned monster, they have a bad tendency to run off and attack whoever has hate on Vrtra at that point. Meaning a lot of useless chasing them around trying to get them cleared before another pop hits the board. Secondly, the recent update changed the pop times of the normal undead that spawn here from 15 minutes to a mere 6 minutes, making crowd control that much harder. Add to it undead agressiveness toward those with low HP, meaning anyone that gets hit is subject to attack by everything in the room. Our first attempt on Vrtra thanks to these trifold reasons, failed... and failed miserably. I think at most we got him to 95% HP...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After our first wipe (and bout 40 minutes, yes it took that long to safely raise everyone... remember, undead agro low HP). We made a couple changes to the party setups. Since the group had enough black mages scattered across both linkshells (and myself), we reformed into a manaburn setup with the focus of bringing down Vrtra's adds quickly. The 2nd part of the add alliance would focus on regular pops and help with summoned pops as needed. The plan for the first 10% of Vrtra's life was working... but another problem arose. In order to clear the mobs as quickly as possible, they are engaged then immediatly called for help upon. I don't know for certain who exactly did what in this part... but someone called for help on Vrtra himself. Only way we had to uncall on Vrtra was either to risk a logoff then and there... or wipe. I did manage to log, but after a couple minutes came back on to see the rest of the group wiped... and myself quickly being downed by a Lemures standing next to me.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

At this point (and another 30 minute wait to be raised), tensions were getting high. Despite 2 previous failures, we pressed on for a 3rd attempt... which resulted in another wipe at 91%.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

At this point, Edarion (PLD and main kiter against Vrtra) returned to Sandy, changed over to Bard and came back to the tomb. At this point... all hell broke loose between the two groups. Basically, Ed says he's taking over the summoned add team cause the black mages aren't doing their job. Several members of PikaBlue take offense to his comments, and a rather nasty shouting match takes place... with me caught square in the middle of it all. Look, I know everyone wants to get the job done and go home happy... but for the love of god, it's a game... it's supposed to be, uh I dunno? Fun? That's the first thing people should always remember. If your not wanting to enjoy the game, or put in the effort to make the game enjoyable for others, then you shouldn't be playing. That's my 2 gil worth and I'm sticking too it. --;

edit (8/17): Looks like Ed did patch things up with PikaBlue...

Very slow night over on FFXI as we did Dynamis - Xarcabard once again. Since we only had 47 people tonight though, we pretty much skipped DL and concentrated on farming. Drops pretty much sucked all night (despite new moon), though we did manage to get DRG, THF, and RNG AF2 for our team along with another 100 Byne Bill at the end... Yes, I did manage to stay alive enough to keep 74 in tact, so I guess you can call tonight a success.

The pictures of the night:

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

First part of the farm run went ok... drops were few at this point, but we did manage to get the Wyrm Armet (DRG AF2 head) for Ultimar at this point.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Kids... this is why you SLEEP AVATARS. Apperently Shiva managed to either wake up without us noticing, or went unchecked... 1 diamond dust completly wiped us (1500-2000 damage each). This particular picture happened after when for some even more inexplicable reason, someone managed to catch agro while half of us were still dead. --;

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Amigo Sabotender pays us a visit at the NM Arena... this part was probabbly my favorite of the entire run. Severly pressed for time, we managed to power our way through 3 sets of NM's in bout 15 minutes to pop a time mob, which (according to my clock), we managed to kill with about 14 seconds left (+30 minutes). Thankfully we had no weird glitches this time with the wall of doom pull, and managed a 2nd +30 minute extention from it.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And for the final good pic of the night... yes, you are reading that correctly. That is RNG AF2 Body dropping off a Kindred White Mage. ^^;

Going to be concentrating on getting some positive gil flow going again, as well as working on RDM sub here in the next couple of weeks. Guess it's good time to repay Qufim Island a visit. =)

Cya all in a couple days...

Hello again everyone. For those of you that have been wondering where I've been hiding the last couple of weeks. No I haven't quit the game, or gone off on some wild adventure of my own. Far from it... basically, for the last few days the game had really just up got boring and repetative. A dynamis here, a sky raid there, another dynamis here... well, you get the picture. And once I'd realize I was hitting one of those walls, it was due time to take a little break from the game and get back to more important things. I'll touch on that here in a little bit... first though, a quick recap of things since my last post.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sky

Our last Sky raid since my hiatus was rather productive, as we managed to score ourselves selves a few more trigger mobs.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Despot cracks under the pressure

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
No, their not trigger mobs, but their still high-priority targets... death to all CGF's that stand in our righteous path!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Not the best place to be standing when Ulli falls over... =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Faust takes a spin on the wild side... and flattens a few taru in the process. (Yeah, I got a little too agressive in this fight)

We also managed to score a couple Ro'mave Waters as well as a victory against Olla Grande, giving us enough triggers this night for a pair of god fights. First up... Genbu

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And for the 2nd time in 3 raids... Genbu dropped the goods for us in the Venemous Claw. But pray tell me this SE... Why can't he drop the fracking Aq. Abj: Hands that I've been needing! *Grumbles*

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Next up... Suzaku.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Nice shot from the point from our newest member... /grin

Right now, we're basically one Byakko away from the 3rd set of triggers we need for Kirin, but as to when that's going to happen. That's anybody's guess right now. I just hope it's soon...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dynamis - Beaucidine

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

"So your saying that your sending us to a cold dark place with a lot of beastmen that need their asses beaten down. Is that it?" Unlike the other zones that have come before it, Bcd. Glacier is huge... now add a torrent of high-level beastmen around every bend, then turn the area dark and gloomy, and add one pinch of FantasyForever, and you've got the perfect recepie for a night in Dynamis.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
How ironic that this guy got Taruroasted by about a dozen very... VERY pissed off taru. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After a long haul through the winding passages of Dynamis - Beaucidine, we arrived at the footsteps of this realms Fei'yin, where we encountered the evil eye: Angra Mainyu... Now supposedly their were supposed to be a few dragons somewhere in this mess, but boss and his pull team did an incredible job, as we never even saw them (dragons? what dragons?) Angra never really stood a chance against us, and only really managed to annoy us by teleporting around the area, which we countered by sicing avatars that unerringly hunted him down for us.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Score one Hydra Corps Tactical Map... and the keys to our final stop, Dynamis - Xarcabard... Also, not one death on my end this time. =)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dynamis - Xarcabard... and beyond the infinite...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Xarcabard, land of howling winds, darkened skys, and the lord of shadows himself... it's a brutal place even in the light of the real world, but in the twisted realm of Dynamis, it's a horrific war zone filled with the elite troops of the Dynamis Lord, all of which would stop at nothing to rend us limb for limb...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Despite the amassed foes around us, we managed to claw our way through their ranks, picking up several nice pieces of AF2 along the path... (Yes, that is the RDM AF2 hat that dropped just a minute before the WAR AF2 Body dropped) =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

During the run, we also managed to score AF2 pieces for WHM, THF, and BST. So in all, a great farming run if you wanted to call it that... but we had plans that night, and it called for us to take down Dynamis Lord... least, that was the plan.

Nobody knows exactly how, or for that matter why it happened. But when we reached the area commonly refered to as the "Wall of Doom" (Basically 6 eyes blocking the pass leading toward Castle Zvahl) we found that the entire wall had been popped. Meaning, instead of having to deal with just the eyes themselves (and their demon spawns), we now had to face the entire wall... fully popped, and waiting for us. In all about 30'ish demons, most of them of the mage variety, as well as their AoE spamming eyes. Our first attempt at it resulted in a full wipe (and for me... a de-level down to 73), though we did manage to take 1 or 2 eyes out in the process... our 2nd attempt...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

The plan was to attempt to catch as many as we could with Sleepga II while the remaining mages took out the eyes. It worked for the most part, but we nearly got wiped a 2nd time by the repeated AoE attacks and spells. Offically, we're chalking the entire incident as a server glitch simply cause that wall shouldn't have been up to begin with. Regardless, and with little time left, we struggled forward...

After fighting our way up the slopes leading to Castle Zvahl, pushing through the numerous vanguard dragons... we encountered Dynamis Lord's twin pet dragons, Ying and Yang. The fight turned out to be a battle of Stun vs. Heavy Stomp... for us though, Heavy Stomp prevailed as Ying and Yang thoroughly stomped on us.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With the time lost to the wall incident, we were unable to reach Dynamis Lord this run... we'll get his ass next time (server glitches permitting).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So Where The Heck Has The Kimi Been?!

Ok... fair question. Yes, for the most part I needed a couple days away from the rigors of the high level game. But also that I've been working on a small project of my own. For a few years now I've been creating sim-files for the Stepmania game (basically a program that duplicates Dance Dance Revolution to it's last detail and then some). Each year, DDRei.com holds their annual Tournamix competition... in short, it's make your own DDR song. For this year's contest (I've been entering since the 3rd installment of this competition), I decided to try my hand at creating something so insanly hard (and yet still doable on feet), that it would make peoples jaws drop...

Here's a few screenshots to keep you salivating, least till the actual simfile is released as part of bracket #2 sometime in the next 2 weeks. (For those of you that are familiar with DDR... yes, that IS a 12, it's also at 400 bpm on the high-end)

Good afternoon everyone. Time for another update in the life of everyone's favorite black mage... =)

With the update finally behind us, it was time to get back to doing what we do best, kill stuff for treasure & experience. Thursday night, we hit sky with the crew of CuteCuteSky, looking to killing us a few more trigger NM's and gods as we continue our preparations for the epic battle against Kirin. What was intersting about this evenings raid was that this was the first major fights since the update (better known as the rape of the ranger... sorry SE, you really ing dropped the ball on this nerf), and we were about to find out firsthand how much the ranger job had been affected by the changes.

First up, the detectors were nice enough to finally pop Steam Cleaner for us... we'd been gunning for his for a while, but he never wanted to show his ugly face until tonight.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Though we had no problems in terms of deaths, it was becomming obvious that the ranger nerf was affecting our damage output. Before the patch, a ranger could easilly have done near 1k damage from a Slug Shot weapon skill at close range. Now, even at the "optimal" range, they were barely cracking 300 damage with the same attacks... --;

Our next target was to be Ulli... but after an hour or so of camping the statue chamber where he spawns, another LS (japanese) arrived and basically was outpulling us left and right. SE says their's no difference in the ping times between NA and Japan... oh really, then how is it a mob is popping as claimed? In reality, the JP players on average has least a full .2 to .5 second lead over even the fastest NA connections... that's an eternity in the digital realm. So, with our plans to camp Ulli scraped, and a Cortana avalible to us... we went to our next target, Brigandish Blade.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

BB this time around proved to be no threat to us as we took the weapon down, and down fast. Ranger damage was a bit better this time; but still nowhere as good as it used to be. In all honesty, the balance of power when it comes to pure damage dealing has shifted right into the hands of the black mages... where it should it.

We also caught a lucky break this evening and managed to claim Zipacna again... very clean fight. No casulaties, and score another god trigger. Our 2nd team also managed to score a vial of Ro'mavue Water and defeated Olla Grande and friends. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With some fresh new triggers in hand, it was time to get to the heart of the matter... killing gods. Tonight's first target, Genbu... Mr. slow-ass turtle himself. Last time CCS had fought him, Aq. Abj: Hands dropped, and with me there for the fight this time... I was hoping for a repeat performance (minus any mithra crunching... ^^)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This time, the ranger nerf reared it's ugly head again... as the cadre of gunners we had against Genbu were hitting for meger amounts of damage (lot of which probabbly comes from Genbu's insane defense). Knowing Mr. Turtle had somewhat of a weakness to thunder-based magic, I ordered a broadside attack from the mage corps. We managed to put some decent wattage into Genbu, including a few 1000 damage shots from Thundaga III.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

"Black leader: Scratch one Genbu..." (my 2nd personal god-kill so far, who says black mages are useless in Sky?). And for the effort... we were well rewarded (no Aq. Abj: Hands this time though...)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Next up for this evening, Suzaku... we've downed his a couple times before without problem, and it turned out to be no problem once again. Drops weren't really anything special so their not shown here.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

That was it for the thursday night raid into Sky. I ended up skiping sunday's raid due to exaustion from RL events, plus the fact that I was hellbent on achieving one goal that evening... level 74.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As it turns out, the same exact camp where I had obtained level 73 a few weeks ago would again become the place where I would gain this ellusive level. This time, we had a full 6-man manaburn party, which started as 5 taru and a hume... and the shinnanagans that would insue. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

In about 4, maybe 4 and a half hours... we scored ourselves a good 25,000 worth of XP. Including some of the rarely seen chain #6's and #7's, which is all but impossible in a conventional party.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

At 10:06 pm EST... it finally happened, the most wonderful sound of all... *DING*

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With luck, this upcomming week will finally bring me to the top of the mountain and the long sought-after level 75. We shall have to see how things go... Also, FantasyForever is back from the outlands, and I'll be up to clear the last of the 4-cities: Dynamis - Jeuno. I'm confident all will go well...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Couple quickie pics to leave you with this evening, first... my good friend Arcaga became the first NA on Siren (or any server) to get one of the new HQ Beastman Hats. From the description he's given, it's a harrowing quest that requires a damn powerful alliance to defeat. Congrats to Arcaga on this grand accomplishment!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And 2nd'ly tonight, I leave you with this; courtesy of a run through Delkfut's Tower helping some friends out with ZM8. Yeah, I thought it was cute. Our wyvies need love too. =)

Good night for now... =)

Hello everyone! We're back! After bout a good day of waiting for the update, and trying to download it despite a DDoS attack on the download servers, I finally managed to get back into the swing of things. With several new changes in store for us from the newest update, it was time to get back to work. =)

My major goal was to complete the newly added fellowship quest. Basically, this quest allows you to summon an NPC companion to fight by your side. To start the quest, I first had to pay a visit to Luto Mewrilah, a newly arrived Mithra NPC located in Upper Jeuno. Luto presented me with a rather long list of names to choose from, from which I was to find said individual. After picking my target (in this case Mahoyaya), I then scoured the town for any info on her werabouts. Turns out Red Ghost, one of the guards in Port Jeuno saw someone similar to who I was seaking. With that, back to Luto I went... gave her the scoop. Part 1 of the quest complete, netting me a small silver ingot for a reward.

A couple hours later (well, more like a quick zone out and back into town), I spoke with the mithra once more. This time... we get word of a mother whom had lost her daughter. From there, a quick talk with Bheem netted another tidbit. It seemed our little taru friend was recently with the girl, and that Mahoyaya (Maho for short) was on her way to Eldime Necropolis... ahhh, this was going to be fun, so off to the Necropolis I went...

There... I found out. I wasn't alone in doing this quest. ^^;;;

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Turns out about 100 people were there, waiting in a makeshift line to trigger the next part of the quest. To be honest, I was suprised things managed to stay as civil as they did. After a bit of a wait (maybe an hour at most), I triggered the ??? that would continue the mission.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I gotta admit, for a taru, Maho fights pretty well. I would hope to see more of her fighting technique, but when a black mage decides to end a fight... they end it. *Snap fingers* Thundaga III for 1371 damage = 1 dead NM skeleton. With the little girl safe (and me wondering just how the heck she got to an undead infested zone to begin with), it was back to our mithra contact.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Later on, I found out an item in Maho's possession was sensing the presence of a powerful item of magic somewhere in San d'Oria. A quick trip to Sandy revealed that orcs had jumped a shipment containing the item in question and that we needed to get it back ASAP. So... off I went to Ghelsba Outpost for another battle... with the dreaded line.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This time, things would be much worse as from the info I had gotten, the fight was a solo burning circle fight capped at level 40. And since only 1 person was allowed into that area at a time... the lines had gotten attrocious. Thankfully, Square-Enix decided to be proactive (for a rare change), and after a quick maintenence to the area changed the fight from a solo fight to a 3-man fight. For us (myself and Why, a 75 WHM), it turned into a duo effort as our beastmaster Dareangle couldn't get into the battlefield. In the end, it didn't matter much as we drove the NM Carrion Dragon into the ground in just under 2 minutes.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After defeating the dragon and returning to Upper Jeuno, Luto hooked me up with a signal pearl which allows me to call forth my new friend Maho to the fray (and cute looking too). Though not nearly as experienced as I am, she'll be of great importance in the trials to come.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After giving the new chocobo quest out (basically delivering a choco from point A to point B before the choco gives out), we also managed a run into the heart of the Temple of Uggalepih. Once again, it was time to knock down Crimson-toothed Pawberry and snag a couple pairs of Carbuncle Mitts for our fellow roundabouts, Sentinal, Xizor, and Sverak.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

First 2 fights went without a hitch... the 3rd and final fight though, our primary tank Roelon bit the dust from a massive searing light fired by Crimson-Toothed Pawberry's not-so-friendly Carby.

And just before he dropped... he got one more searing light off, and dropped me with it. Death, can I add you to my friend list? ;_;

Otherwise, a good run overall. Congrats to Sent, Xizor, and Sverak on their new Carby Mitts. =)

And one more bit of news... there's a good possibility that Darklin may be returning to the game. /cheer! Stay tuned for further developments...

Hello again everyone. If I can sum up sunday night in one word, it'd be "exausting". With a major server maintenence less than 24 hours away that would have us shutdown for the entirety of monday, it was time to make a push and get stuff done.

First up on the agenda for the day was unlocking advanced jobs. This is an area that I've really been neglecting for a long time, and I felt it was due time to get the remaining advanced jobs unlocked and ready to go. First up was Samurai; being I was already in possession of the 2 items needed for the task (a sacred sprig, and bomb steel). First stop, a lonely cavern in the depths of Konschalat Highlands... trading the steel to a ??? located within the cavern spawned Forger, a bomb-type NM.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

A quick shot of Fire IV and Firaga III made fast work of him, and with the reforged steel in hand, it was time for my 2nd stop.

Deep in an unmapped area of the Sanctuary of Zi'tah lies a massive tree with a couple of ??? points upon it's monsterous girth. Initially checking the ??? did nothing, as a hatchet was needed to remove the branch (silly me forgot her hatchet, so a quick trip back to windy for it ^^;). After taking the hatchet to the ???, I was quickly paid a visit by a not-so-happy Guardian Treant...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And to think he wasn't happy then, wait till after I had put bout 2,000 points of fire damage into him. With the big ugly out of the way, trading the sacred sprig to the ??? netted me the 2nd and final item needed. From there, a quick trip back to Norg to turn the items in... and... what? 3 days before my new Muneito is ready (3 hours in real time). ^^;;; Oh joy... well, plenty of time for the next advanced job unlock, Dragoon...

To be honest, I wish I had some good screenshots for this part of my day, cause the backstory for the Dragoon quest is rather touching. The quest itself begins in San d'Oria, where after gather some information around town, you are sent to the Maze of Shkarami to dig up a recently laid wyvern egg. With pickaxe in hand, I proceeded to the area and managed to dig up the egg on my first attempt. Next, after returning to San d'Oria, you then head to Merph. Mountains, where at the base of Drogoria's Spine (right near the entrance to Castle Otrjoza) the egg is placed and the wyvern is born... finally, after going back to Sandy (AGAIN)... you then at last head to the hut in Ghelsba Outpost to face one last challenge, one in which I smoked in bout 40 seconds (plus cutscene time). Tada... Dragoon unlocked, and I've got myself a new friend named Lumerie. ^_~

With still about an hour or so before the Samurai wait timer was up, it was next off to bastok to work on Dark Knight. After making a quick stop for a free 2k xp (aka: the solo ENM60 in Mine Shaft #2416), the Dark Knight quest was started. The easy part, finding the legendary Zeid, which required a trip to Palaborough Mines and from there taking the ferry back to Zeruhm Mines. Next... the hard part. Kill 100 mobs to satisfy the bloodlust of the sword.

Wait a second... sword? Me? A black mage who has never even touched a warrior job before this day? Guess it was good time to start learning the trade. With Deathbringer (probabbly the absolute WORST weapon in the game) and a white mage subjob. Out I went into the dangerous wilds of North Gustaburg... as of now, I'm bout 30-35 kills in (and made level 3 warrior in the process, woot!). Dark Knight training would have to wait for another day as finally, my black mage tallents were bout to be put to good use.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting a call from fellow Roundabouts Sentinal and Milikai, we made our way through the Temple of Uggalepih and into the Den of Rancor. Our target, the ellusive avatar of water, Leviathan. Picking up Trixie on the way (also a member of FantasyForever) we got to the Cloister of Tides without incident... and despite our minimal numbers, Leviathan was no match for us.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I'll probabbly be using this whisper to get Leviathan as a summon for my summoner job, which leaves me with only Fenrir left to obtain. Only 3 whispers left (another round with Leviathan, Garuda, and Ramuh) before I can take on the big dog of the avatars. =)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The fun didn't stop at Leviathan though, as immediatly afterwards I warped back to Windurst where the gathered forces of FantasyForever were preparing for an assault on Dynamis - Windurst. Of the 4 starting nations, Dynamis - Windurst is considered to be the most difficult, thanks to narrow bridges and lots of mage type mobs. This time though, I was ready for it. A full supply of medicines and required gear, plus a good XP buffer of bout 20,000.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

In hindsight, I came overprepared as FF just stomped a mudhole onto Dynamis - Windurst. I'm quite thoroughly convinced now that we are just that damn good, especially when it came down to a special hit & warp operation the taru black mages were sent upon against a manafest icon (+20 minute time mob) which gave us the time needed to finish the job and farm with impunity. The hit & warp went without a hitch (though the weakness from re-entering dynamis lasted quite a while).

Only really bad news was that the drops tonight just downright sucked. 1 BLM AF2, 2 SMN AF2's, and 1 PLD AF2. The good news was, with the exception of one death on a overnuke while farming (which I got R3'ed), not one death on my end during the run. =)

Final Damage Report:
XP Lost: 200 (maybe less)
Dynamis - Windurst: CLEARED!

FantasyForever will be moving onto into the outlands next week, which since I don't have Dynamis - Jueno cleared yet I won't be able to attend. This'll give me a good chance to make a big push toward level 74, or even maybe 75. We'll see what happenes...

Well, time for me to call it a day, cya all... wait... oh that's right, their's one more thing to cover...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's right kiddos, right after Dynamis - Windurst, we went to Sky with CCS for a late night god hunt. Was going to try to get to Zip again first, but... the gilfarmers were there, as well as another LS lead by Aola who made mincemeat out said gilfarmers. Now I know MPK (Monster Player Kill) is against the rules, but damnit I say it's open season on the gilfarming assholes. Three /cheers for Aola and company! (edit: and the upcomming patch is really going to take a bite out of their business as a lot of their staple items are bout to become Rare/EX... another /cheer for Square-Enix for getting off their rears and doing something about them!)

Skiping the usual trigger farming beforehand, we went right to the action tonight. First off, old blue-eyes Seiryu. No big problem here as we downed him with little effort. Plus, Seiryu was feeling rather generous to us this evening in terms of drops.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Our 2nd target of the evening was the big cat himself, Byakko. Ahhh, at last a new challenge for me. For a tiger, this beast hits fast and hits hard. Not only does he possess a plethoria of thief-based abilities, including triple attack and perfect dodge, he also fires at you with several powerful light-based spells (Diaga III, Banishga III, Banish IV, spells that we can't access yet as players... ^^;)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Despite his speed, power, and resistance to nearly all our black magic... Mr. Byakko fell to defeat (and yours truely even got the kill with a 50 damage Fire IV. Now who says black mages are useless in god fights? ^_^)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Drops once again were rather good (so to speak). =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And now here we sit... and wait for a 16 hour maintenence which won't end till bout 3 am tuesday morning on my end. Should be intersting to see what all has changed in this new patch. Until then... ta-taru!

Hello again everyone. Busy last couple of days for me, so let's get right to it...

First off on the agenda was another trip to Dynamis - Bastok on wendsday evening, this time with the good folks of FantasyForever. FF is one of the premire NA Dynamis linkshells on Siren, being the first on the server to defeat Dynamis Lord and clear Xarcabard. I had been trying for a couple of months now to get into the group without success. But my recent efforts to join the group finally paid off as I was invited to the LS by Chxkdragon, leader of FF and one of the top red mages on the server. Once again, I was placed in with the nuke/sleepga II team (basically sleep mobs & nuke statues, same job as before). Several members of CCS were also present (including Sassyboy, Russia, and Moemo-chan) and several other high-level players I'm familiar with, including Merlin.

Unlike our last trip to bastok with DM, this trip went about as smoothly as it could. Even dispite one bad pull that caused a mass link from the alleyway (poor Chkxdragon got squished on this pull) we managed to pull through it without a wipe. Definitely a good sign that I'm with a band of highly competent players.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After our nearly fatal pull. We pretty much rolled through the rest of the run without any major trouble.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Before long, after clearing out all the required notorious monsters, we were paid a visit by the boss of Dynamis - Bastok, the Gu'dah Effigy... and considering we done plastered his pals in the process of getting here. He wasn't too happy to see us...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Gu'dah did manage to plaster a few taru to the pavement, but in the end... good will always triumph over evil (cause evil is dumb...) Dynamis - Bastok: Cleared!

Damage report from Dynamis Bastok:
XP Lost: 2k (only 3 deaths on my end this time, mainly due to overzealous nuking. Thank goodness for Raise III)
Drops: AF2 (Pld x2, Blm, Rdm, Smn, Drk), 100 Byne Bill x2, Relic Blade (GS), Relic Axe, Ito

Next up for the folks of FantasyForever is a trip back home... Dynamis - Windurst. Considered to be the toughest of the first 4 dynamis zones, this should prove to be a good challenge for us.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday evening was a rather fun night as the folks of CuteCuteSky gathered together for another trigger & god run. First, we caught Zip once again napping and downed the golem with little trouble. Many thinks to Malakai for a terrific solo tanking job while we rushed to get there... =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Our 2nd target of the evening was Steam Cleaner, another NM doll needed for god pops. Steam Cleaner (yeah, you get the idea what some of the mobs in Ve'lugannon Palace are named) is a random spawn from caretakers, which themselves are spawned by detectors hanging around in the area. We basically camped the area for a couple hours, but unfortunately for us the little bugger didn't want to show it's ugly face this time around...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

While the others took care of business up in Sky (including a 2nd defeat of Zipacha, and a takedown of Suzaku). I had to depart Sky early this evening to attend to a matter of important Roundabout business...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

"And just how many people are we fitting into this thing?" I asked, as the gathered Roundabouts had amassed in the sandy beaches of Purgonogo Isle to tackle their more difficult challenge to date... a suprise birthday party for our mega boss, Milkman. The plot: Have Wraeth call Milk for a Raise while the rest of us (off-shell) waited for his arrival from inside the "??? Warmachine", an orcish warmachine NPC sitting on the beach. Much shinannagans resulted as nearly 15 people piled on top of each other within the machine... This is what happens when you sit on me. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After a bit of a wait, we sprung the trap on our hapless victim. And their was much rejoycing. =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

We had an absolutely terrific time, sharing old tales. Giving Milk a Garuda Lap-dance... *tehehehe* and indiscriminately killing mobs in the process. In all, a lot of fun had by all. Happy B-Day Mega Boss! /cheer

That's it for tonight's update. Cya all in a couple of days. =)

Greetings once again from the palatial gardens of Tu'lia everyone. Tonight marked a milestone night for me in FFXI History, as for the first time I have come face to face with the gods of Sky (well, 2 of the 5 to be exact). It also marks our first official run with CuteCuteSky, one of the newer HNM linkshells on Siren. CuteCuteSky (or CCS as I refer to them) is a bit different from a lot of the other shells out there, as people are recruited mainly on personality & skill rather than how much uber-leet gear and stuff you bring to the table. It's a *gasp* drama-free linkshell (a rarity amongst HNM Linkshells these days), and I'm glad Mawashi-sama, a mithra white mage whom I've known since my first days in the game graced me with the honor of joining this fine shell. FYI: No I am not leaving the roundies at all, CCS actually gives me to freedom to have fun and still be a party of the endgame community... which is what I needed in a HNMLS. =)

First off though, in order to fight the gods you need to get various items to spawn them. As you may remember from my previous expedition to sky with the roundies, this can be a daunting experience especially when their's competition from other shells there. Tonight though was different... much much different...

First off the blocks... Zipacna, the golem.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With only part of our alliance assembled at the time, we took on the giant statue. The fight really didn't go bad at all save for a ranger getting caught with utsusemi down by a crystal rain attack.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

In the end, we took the big boy down and scorred our first pop item of the night...

Next, we got word from Billylau, another of our many rangers, that faust was up and unclaimed... within minutes, we were racing over to his location in the twisting labyrinths of Ru'avitu, including a particularly nasty teleport where the party gets split up from each other. Regrouping, we got the pull on Faust... the mack truck of all dolls.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

And when I say Mack Truck, I mean it, cause this NM hits terribly hard. And everything he hits with is area of effect, putting the soft little taru mages in our group (myself included) in great peril. Thankfully, Sassyboy (our ninja and linkshell leader) did a terrific job tanking his way through Faust's AOE spam and eventually, whittled the mega boss down to 0 health... game, set, and match. Utsusemi might make a ninja a good tank, but it takes something a little extra... like this little piece Sassyboy has.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

With Faust down... we went for our next target. The Mother Globe (again... unchallenged). This time the challenge came not really from the NM herself, but the 6 slave globes that follow her around... Sadly I don't have a screeshot of the Slave Globes, but let's just say yours truely put about 50,000 volts worth of Thundaga III into them, frying MG's little helpers in one fell swoop. From there, it was a simple matter of stunning the globes big spells and taking out any further slave globe spawns while Malakai kited MG around for some ranger target practice.

Our last pop target of the evening was Ullikummi. Half our alliance had already engaged the NM while the rest of us were dashing from Mother Globe's camp to the Ulli camp. Somewhere along the way, one of us lost sneak in the middle of 3 Aura Weapons, and myself, Mawashi, and Bubble all got ripped to shreads. Thankfully for us, Mawashi has a LOT of friends, a few of which were nearby who came and delt with the rouge weapons. Maw reraised, R3'ed us... but, in the process the alliance managed to defeat Ulli before we could arrive. =)

With the pops we had gathered during the evening, plus previous pops from other runs. We had enough items to take on 3 of the gods; Suzaku, Seiryu, and Byakko. Time constraints would put Byakko off till the upcomming thursday, but it left our intrepid band more than enough time to take on the big bird and old blue... =)

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

To be perfectly honest, despite how hard people have said Suzaku is... he really posed no legit threat to our alliance at any point in the fight. Any big spells he tried to throw, we stunned... even when he went for his 2-hr (chainspell), the alliance executed a perfectly planned shadowbind/stun move, preventing Suzaku from moving on us while giving us enough time to spread out of his spell range. Once his chainspell expired, we went right back to work... and in only a few short minutes.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Down the big bird went... score one Seal of Suzaku, a pair of Dryadic Abjurations (Hands), a Suzaku's Scythe, and a antartic wind (to be used against another of the gods later on). Not the best drops in the world, but we're one step closer to the big man himself... and zero deaths makes the victory that much sweeter.

Next up on the hit list... Seiryu.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Seiryu proved a bit more of a challenge to our group as the tanks were being constantly bombarded by dispelling wind, striping away many of the protective buffs we had placed upon them. Our healers did just a fantastic job keeping the tanks up through the fight, and again thanks to the shadowbind/stun move, we managed to outlast Seiryu's 2hr (Hundred Fists). Took us a little longer on the kill than Suzaku, but like the big bird... old blue eventually fell to our might.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Again, luck wasn't quite with us on drops. But score another victory for the cute ones. ^_~ v

We're hoping to get the remaining pop items we need this thursday, then we go for the big cat, Byakko and his great turtleness, Genbu. From there, who knows... if we have enough people, we may go for the greatest god of them all... Kirin, but that remains to be seen. We've got a great group here though and I'm sure with a few more people, we can pull it off. =)
